For those of you who attended, what was one "really cool" thing you learned at the Michigan Association of Computer Users Learning (MACUL) conference in Detroit?
I learned that sometimes poor reading skills can be attributed to poor ocular motor skills (difficulty with the muscles that control the eyes). First we learn gross motor skills, then fine motor skills, and our ocular motor skills are the last to develop. If a student has had delays or gaps in either gross motor or fine motor development, they are likely to have delays or gaps in ocular motor skills, too. We need to fill these earlier gaps BEFORE students can improve the movements of their eye muscles and improve their reading skills.
WOW! There was so much it is hard to think about just one thing. I got some really good ideas about how to use the digital cameras in our rooms( Especially as Menu Options or as part of a Tiered Assignment), and how to manage some of the ligistic stuff ( checking our from the library etc.) Now if we could just find some money to purchase some for the building!- MS
The Web 2.0 opportunities available to us were wonderful. Not sure I have the time to utilize all of them, but what great web sites to explore to use with kids. CL
It was and is always an awesome experience. Where do I start... I always love the enhancements we can add to learning. For example the Webbe's which are little books that kids can make online (FREE)- they can especially be useful in social studies or science. The only down side was that I was a little disappointed with the RTI- sessions!- Katie
